British Schools Overseas (BSO)

British Schools Overseas (BSO) is a UK government inspection scheme overseen by the Department for Education (DfE). It enables British international schools to be inspected against a common set of standards aligned with independent schools in England.

BSO inspections evaluate key areas including:

• Quality of education, teaching and assessment
• Pupils’ welfare, health and safety
• Leadership and management
• Personal development and British values
• Communication with parents and the wider community

Schools that meet these standards are formally recognised by the UK government, confirming that they provide an education comparable to that of high-quality independent schools in the United Kingdom. The inspection process is externally quality assured by Ofsted and conducted by approved inspectorates such as Penta International .
